Film poster research.

The film catfish is a low budget film which was released in September 2010 in the USA. The film was distributed by Universal Pictures with a running time of 87 minutes. This film was directed by Henry Joost as well as Ariel Schulman. The production company of this film is Relativity Media and Rogue Pictures.

This poster is very original with the title centred in white bold and simple text style. All the text appeared on this poster is in white which does not appeal very interesting for the audience in my opinion. In a way, the poster is creative due to the viewers not being able to see the woman which is what the plot of the story is about which can also reveal there may be some lies ahead! The blue banner in the middle of the poster is the same colour used on the social media site called Facebook followed by the tag line "Think before you click" with two buttons either side which is easily recognisable for the target audience. There are ratings either side of the title followed by quotes of what people thought of the film. This is intriguing for cinema 'Buffs'. The poster as a whole is not very eye catchy, as there is no release date so the viewers will not know when the film can be watched or where it can be watched.

Secondly, there are no actor names appeared. This will not help gain an audience as the viewers will not know who the actors are. This links into star power. Some people want to go and watch a film due to the actors involved. In the background next to the man in the top photo, there is the colour red shown. This may suggest that something dangerous may happen to him during the film.

Moving on to the Insurgent poster. The film Insurgent is a higher budget film with a budget off $110 million. This film was released March the 19th, 2015 in the UK, it was also released in the USA a day after. This film was distributed by Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment. This film has a previous film called 'Divergent' this suggest they already have an audience.

This poster instantly shows there is action and violence involved due to the props involved such as guns. The mise-en -scene also suggest there will be action. As an example, there is glass shattered around the bottom of the poster and through the middle. The characters are also wearing tight fitted black clothing, which suggests they could be important people as they look like agents. The characters have been positioned in a clever way. It can connote the two characters have each others backs throughout the film as they are positioned back to back helping each other and keeping a look out.

This poster has far more information than the lower budget poster does. The poster states it is a series which may indicate people to watch the first film if they haven't already. There is also a release date shown at the bottom in bold capitals. This makes it easier for the viewer to find when they are able to view the film.

There are also the names of the cast at the top in smaller writing but it is still easily readable. This is an advantage due to the audience wanting to watch the film due to a certain actor involved such as Theo James. Theo James and Shailene Woodley also starred in a big film called The Fault In Our Stars. This is known as star power. The use of star power builds high expectations of the film due to the actors being well known.

This poster has used dark colours such as grey and a washed out blue. This makes the film title and other information stand out and easy to read. There is a bright blue laser beam going through the title. This can connote the film could be about something happening in the future, or there are futuristic weapons involved. The beam could also indicate which genre the film could be such as Sci-Fi.
